An Exercise In Happiness…

Think yourself into feeling good. Begin by closing your eyes.

Take a deep breath and notice what you are thinking. Just notice whatever it is without making it right or wrong. Then begin thinking about a time when something extra-good happened to you. Think about how good you felt at the time.

If you can’t think of anything extra-good that has happened to you, you can imagine a “what if” of something extra-good that you would like to experience. Notice how you begin to feel good right now for no particular reason other than that you are thinking about a wonderful time in your life. If and when the negative chatter starts to interfere with your good time, just shift your thoughts back to your good experience.

The negative chatter will not give up without a fight. It has been running the show for a long time and is now a habit. So you’ll have to remain conscious of your thoughts to shift them to a happy time in your life whenever the negative chatter tries to creep in and ruin your positive thinking experience.

Each time you shift from your negative chatter to your good experience is proof that you can do this. Now you know that you can think yourself into feeling good. Now you know what a difference a thought makes.
