Change Your Thoughts To Avoid The “Dreaded Outcome”

To eliminate feelings of worry, you have to change your thoughts about a situation or person that you have allowed to cause you to worry.

Instead of thinking about a dreaded outcome, think about the countless ways in which it could turn out great or at the very least, okay. If at first you come up blank with a positive outcome, then think about one single thing in life you are grateful for. This is a distraction tactic. Once you have distracted yourself from thinking about a dreaded outcome, the next step is to begin thinking about the way you would like the circumstance to turn out. Just a single thought is good enough.

stress and worry self esteemIt might not be easy at first, but you can do it. Remain conscious of your thinking and whenever you notice yourself having a worrisome thought, think once again about a positive outcome. For example, you are afraid you are going to be let go from your job. Think about what you do right on your job. Think to and think about a good outcome. You might even tell yourself that your worry is all a figment of your imagination and that there is absolutely no reason to worry. In the event it is inevitable that you will lose your job because of a company closure, think about the way in which you will find a better job with better pay and right away. You might even begin to think that losing your job is positive.

You may have to repeat these steps over and over before they take the place of worry. Of course it goes without saying that the more you do it, the easier it becomes. Not only is worry futile, it almost always leads to feeling stressed.
